Deborah

Judg. ch. 4
Lesson Content
1. The children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan (Judg. 4:1,2).
2. Sisera, captain of the host of Jabin, oppressed the children of Israel for twenty years and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of this (Judg. 4:2,3).
3. Deborah, a prophetess was judge over Israel during this period (Judg. 4:4,5).
4. She called Barak and spoke to him about the Lord’s promise that He would deliver Sisera into his hand (Judg. 4:6,7).
5. Barak insisted on Deborah’s going with him and Deborah agreed (Judg. 4:8,9).
6. Barak enlisted the support of the tribes of Zebulun and N aphthali and proceeded with Deborah and ten thousand men for the battle (Judg. 4:10).
7. Sisera gathered together all his chariots and all the people who were with him (Judg. 4:12,13).
8. Deborah conveyed to Barak the definite message of God that he had delivered Sisera into his hand that very day (Judg. 4:14).
9. Sisera was defeated in the battle and he fled to Jael’s tent (Judg. 4:15-17).
10. The conversation between Jael and Sisera (Judg. 4:18-20).
11. Sisera was killed by Jael while he was asleep (Judg. 4:21).
12. Thus God subdued Jabin, king of Canaan before the children of Israel and delivered the Israelites from the oppression of Sisera (Judg. 4:23,24).
Moral
When the people of God cry unto the Lord, when oppressed by enemies, the Lord raises up His servants and delivers them.
Memory Verse
