The Israelites Cross the Red Sea

Reading Portion

Exo. 14:5-31

After the terrible night when the firstborn of the Egyptians died, Pharaoh finally told the Israelites, “Go! Leave Egypt!” The people packed their things quickly and began their journey toward the land God had promised them.

But soon, as they traveled and came close to the Red Sea, something frightening happened. Pharaoh changed his mind. He gathered his soldiers, chariots, and horses, and raced after the Israelites, hoping to bring them back to Egypt.
When the Israelites saw the huge army coming toward them, they became very scared. The sea was in front of them, and Pharaoh’s soldiers were behind them. They began to cry out and complain to Moses.
But Moses spoke calmly and bravely. “Do not be afraid,” he told them. “Stand still and see how God will save you today. The Lord will fight for you.”
