The Israelites at Rephidim

Reading Portion

Exo. ch. 17

After many days of traveling through the wilderness, the children of Israel came to a place called Rephidim. But when they arrived, there was no water anywhere. The people were tired, thirsty, and upset.

They went to Moses and complained, “Give us water to drink!” Moses tried to calm them, but the people kept arguing and saying, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt to make us die of thirst?”
Moses prayed to God, asking what he should do. And God gave him a clear answer.
God said, “Take your staff—the one you used to strike the Red Sea—and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Go to the rock at Horeb. I will stand before you on the rock. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it.”
